Down East Council Survey....Participate and share your voice!

To all those who are from, now live and work, love and care about Down East....

The thirteen communities of Down East collectively include over 7,500 county residents. In order to better represent the Down East communities in county planning efforts, the Down East Council is working with county planners to survey the demographics and opportunities for improving our communities. Please take a moment to fill out this survey. YOUR input is needed and valued.

– James Morris, DEC Chair

Down East Council is now working with the Carteret County Economic Development Council and NC Commerce Division of Community Planning to update our Resource Team recommendations to be included in the county’s long-term strategic planning process.  By being an active part of this planning effort, the needs and opportunities for Down East will be considered for future county support in line with the other municipalities of the county.  We believe this is an important step in bringing the cultural value and economic opportunities of Down East to the forefront of county planning.

The Down East Council (an open group of community representatives) will serve as the steering committee for this work that will begin with a survey (link provided above).  It is important that as many Down East residents (of all ages) complete and return this questionnaire (either online or hard-copy) between April 1 and April 21.  Where you can find a hard copy of the survey will be published once those locations are finalized.  This is YOUR chance to be heard on important decisions for our Down East communities.

Survey results will be presented to all interested Down East residents on Monday, May 5th.  We invite you to join us for that meeting - meeting location will be announced as soon as possible.

We encourage you to complete this survey as it can provide excellent information for Down East.

The Vision of the Down East Council is:  To serve as a unified voice of our Down East Communities by expressing our desires and needs for promoting livelihoods in a growing economy, celebrating and honoring our heritage while protecting our unique coastal environment.
